Copyright dispute around the Hundred-Lari Banknote

David Amirejibi, the heir and the right holder of famous artist Mose Toidze, alleges the Georgian National Bank in infringement of the copyright. As Mr. David Amirejibi states, the National Bank of Georgia portrayed the picture of Shota Rustaveli by Mose Toidze on the hundred-lari banknote without permission.

The National Bank of Georgia does not admits the copyright violation, and declares that the bank was not informed on the authorship of Mose Toidze and the portrait of Shota Rustaveli is legally obtained from the National Library. The same position is shared by the National Library, which states that the author of the used Shota Rustaveli portrait does not belong to the works of Mose Toidze.

The right holder of the artist hopes on peaceful negotiations with the National Bank.
